GROWING MEMBERSHIP

With a growing membership of more than 600 the Rangiora Golf Club is still taking new members on a full playing basis, but the time is not far away when consideration will have to be given to restricting new members to limited playing rights with a correspondingly lower membership fee. The club has yet to fully investigate the possibility of restricted rights but it seems likely that initially any restriction would apply to the exclusion of Saturdays during the winter season. Although members are drawn from a wide area including Christchurch, every effort is made to retain the district flavour of the club, with preference being given to local residents and it is expected

that these would continue to be given preference for full membership in the event of any restrictions becoming necessary. For many years the club has been very active in encouraging younger local residents into the club through Golf Foundation activities, helping junior members, and encouraging school golfers with coaching activities and tournaments. In association with the club, the Rangiora High School has golf as one of its school sports with the club course being made available at no charge. One feature of the club has been to integrate new members as fully as possible in the club’s activities, particularly in arranging the draws.
