Sewage on beaches
(N.Z. Press Association) I DUNEDIN, Dec. 22. Pollution by raw sewage : has occurred for the second ■ time in four weeks at St I Clair Beach, Dunedin. . Patches of brown scum were 1 seen floating on the surface ' of the water this morning. , The scum also covered i areas of sand near the | water’s edge, but according to St Clair’s paid surf patrolman, Mr V. Guytonbeck, the ' situation is not as bad as it > was last month when both St ■ Clair and St Kilda beaches, • affected by a thick brown i slime from Lawyers Head, ■ were closed to swimmers. Mr Guytonbeck said that a ■ close inshore rip extending i must have caught; the raw > sewage and carried it to the ; beach.
