Firm prices on N.Z. market
Rises outnumbered falls by a good margin in firmer trading on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday. Leading issues were mainly marginally firmer, while the best gains were shown by the less active industrials.
Kidd Garrett, which has advised shareholders not to sell, was traded 20c higher at 120 c. P.T.Y. was quite actively traded to finish 10c higher at 285 c. The directors have recommended acceptance of the Winstone offer, subject to no higher offer being made for the company. A. B. Cables gained 8c; Alliance Textiles 3; C.M.1., 4c; and D.R.G., sc. National Insurance was 5c higher after its annual report and South British firmed 4c. RISES New Zealand
M. O’Brien, Tee Vee and Tolley made useful gains. The breweries were little changed with Dominion 1c higher at 110 c and New Zealand Breweries 1c lower at 107 c. Ballins Industries eased a cent. Auckland Gas added to recent gains with a further rise of 2c. The shares have moved up from about 70c two months ago to the latest price of 85c. The company does not publish an interim report. Its balance date is March 31.
