DUTY ON BUSES

New approach to Minister (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 1. The Auckland Regional Authority will make further representations to the Minister of Customs (Mr AdamsSchneider) on the import duty it will have to pay if it buys Mercedes-Benz buses. Informed sources say it is likely that the authority will buy the German buses whether or not the Minister revises his decision not to allow these at the 6J per cent Commonwealth import rate. The normal rate on buses from Germany is 45 per cent, and if the 150 buses the authority wants to order come in at that rate almost slm more in duty will be involved.
