Australia has introduced in the United Nations a proposal to help to protect journalists covering armed conflicts by the use of national safe-conduct passes. Australia’s representative (Mr Roy Peachey) told the General Assembly Social Committee that under the proposal the countries involved in fighting would be responsible for issuing safeconduct cards. Another proposal before the committee calls for the establishment of an international body to issue the passes.
