APPEAL BY IRELAND

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) DUBLIN, December 1. The Irish Government last night decided to take allegations of brutality by British troops in Ulster to the Court of Human Rights at Strasbourg. The British Government issued a statement expressing “regret” over the Irish Government’s decision. A Foreign Office spokesman said: “Her Majesty’s Government regret that the Government of the Republic of Ireland should have chosen to make a governmental dispute of this issue. “We have not, of course, seen the allegations on which the petition is based and, until then, we cannot comment more fully. They might indeed have usefully been pul to us for investigation first.

“Her Majesty’s Government do not consider that they are in breach of their obligations under the convention,” the spokesman said.
