Rhodesia

Sir,—Mr Harold Wilson could have prevented the present disgraceful sell-out in Rhodesia by stationing a division of troops in neighbouring black States at the time of the unilateral declaration of independence; If Mr Wilson, whose record as an appeaser was little better than Mr Heath’s, had ringed Rhodesia with troops there would have been no breakaway by the white racists, especially if they had known they would be used if necessary. But pf course it would be unthinkable to use force against white skins. It is only dark-skinned people who are expendable. For “X UK’s” information, copper, which is an export of several black African States, not Rhodesia, has halved in price over the last two years. The two largest users of copper, U.S.A and Japan, buy all they want from South America and Australia. Neither Russia nor the satellites are exporters of copper in significant quantities. Local racists should try to be better informed.— Yours, etc., J. DENNEHY. Greymouth, November 29, 1971.
