HORSE TALK

HORSE SOCIETY The Canterbury area of the society organised a jumping show recently. The committee felt this show would have attracted many competitors from the Christchurch show for the A grade events, but most riders must have wished to save their horses for the southern circuit However, the . C grade events were well supported. Winners for the day were Miss C. Begg, on Irish Dollar, A, Smillie, on Blue Smoke, and B. Pearce, on Glentarken, in the A and C grade events; Miss N. Darling, Perth, and Mrs M. Power, on Final Peak, in the Improvers’; and J. Bourne, Tinopai, and Miss R. Miller, on Dipmate, in the Novice. Another successful training day was held at Prebbleton last Sunday, with riders receiving instruction before competing on a sweepstake basis. The winners of the two events were J. Bourne, on Tinopai, in the Novice and Miss C. Quinn, on Great Guns, in the Improvers’. DRESSAGE GROUP Ten riders participated in basic training in'the morning, while in the afternoon, a judges* discussion group was held with two preliminary horses being used as “guinea pigs.” This was felt to be most beneficial, and it was decided to repeat this day in January with the area trialists being asked to attend, to give the judges a larger selection for observation.
