RACING Dixie Belle top choice for Hawera first leg

I "The Press" Special Service ’S NEW PLYMOUTH. The Test Case mare Dixie Belle has run a number of sound races in [recent months, and she appears to have a fine light-weight’s chance in the J. W. Dant Bourbon Handicap at Hawera today.

Run over 10 furlongs for a stake of $2200. the race is the first leg of the T.A.B. concession double at the Bgmont Racing Club’s summer meeting.

Dixie Belle has mixed her latest racing between sprint and middle distances, but she does not appear to be short on stamina, and with only 7.6 on her back, she should run out the 10 furlongs soundly. At her most recent starton the first day of the Waikato meeting she finished on strongly into third place behind Hi Bing over a rtiile. It was a more-than-useful performance, and the appears to be much better placed in today’s field, Oddfellow is a hard horse to follow, but he has raced well in Taranaki in the past and a useful last start fourth at Te Rapa gives him a winning chance. He will be bracketed with Dixie Belle, so the bracket makes strong appeal. After his two good races at the Napier Park meeting, there will be support for the

I top-weight, Dollar Bill, and , Britannicus, which has been , sprinting well lately, has to 1 be considered despite his 1 poor record at the distance. t Yogi Bear, a winner on the track in October, Evenstead, , Classico, and Kartika are the only remaining runners which have any appeal. Second leg i After his two fine races at i the Waikato meeting, Willie i Can will be a popular fancy > for the second leg—the ■ Stewards’ Handicap. He I revelled in the heavy going i to win at Te Rapa last Saturday, and he has certainly i struck an excellent patch of form. The top-weight, Dolapal, has been in fine form this season. He needs good going, but is a top-class sprinter at six furlongs, and should test this fieldAlthough fresh from a long spell, it would be no surprise to see the Pakistan II mare Tantara produce a

bold race, and Himself has some fine hack form to back his claims.

Anticipation is always capable of a useful sprint, and others which make some appeal are Semblance, Gold Man, Sancho and La Bona Dea.
