Accountancy bursaries
(N.Z. Press Asiociation) WELLINGTON, Nov. 30. Bursaries at the second step in the technical institute scale, amounting to $BO .a year, would be granted to full-time accountancy students in their first year at institutes, said the Minister of Education (Mr Taiboys), Students qualifying for a boarding allowance would receive $3OO a year. Mr Taiboys said that technical institutes were gradually taking over the role of providing non-degree professional accountancy courses. "The new bursary will be granted to students with university entrance taking fulltime courses,” he said. ‘‘The one-year courses given at technical institutes are specifically designed to provide training in preparation for further part-time study leading to professional qualifications. “Universities are becoming increasingly graduate oriented and only a small, and diminishing number of students now enrol for full-time accountancy studies there. “Provision of the bursary will make it easier for students to begin accountancy studies full-time without staying on for a seventh form year and going to university,” said Mr Taiboys.
