Scrambler badly hurt

The South Island 250 c.c. miniature T.T. champion, G. V. Sword, of Christchurch (above), is unlikely to race motor-cycles again this summer ifter being seriously injured in a crash on the Hark lie scramble circuit on Sunday.

The 26-year-old motorcycle engineer is in hospital with a compound fracture of his right arm and a cracked pelvis. •

He lost control of bis 250 c.c. Greeves over a Jump in a dnb event, crashed heavily, and B. Read, of Rangiora, who was following closely behind on Ms big 500 C.C. Matchlessfid was left with nowhere to go. Read ran into Sword as he lay on the ground and was flung over the handlebars and 20ft down the trade. Sword severed the radial nerve of his right arm in a crash in France in June last year, and he has only recently gained full use of the arm. -f ■ -
