wages
NZ. Press Association)
NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 29. Conditions of “grave unrest” exist among Govern-1 ment construction workers on the New Plymouth power project, according to the national president of the Workers’ Union (Mr J. W. Sylvester). The situation was similar on other power projects, at Twizel on the Waitaki River at Tongariro, Mr Sylvester said after presiding over si stop-work meeting at the New Plymouth project. Mr Sylvester, whose union represents all State tradesmen on construction projects, said his members wanted the 4.8 per cent cost of living allowance granted by the Remuneration Authority in July, to bridge the relativity gap between their wages and rates paid in the private sector.
