GRASS FIRE SPREADS
Firemen spent about seven hours attending to a grass fire spread over about 100 acres in Guys Road, Harewood, behind Christchurch Airport, yesterday. No buildings were damaged in the fire.
Engines from Harewood and Sockbum fire stations and water tenders from Paparua and Waimairi answered the alarm, which was raised at 1.10 p.m. A fireman was injured while attending another fire, in a belt of trees at Jellie Park, Greers Road, Waimairi. He is Fireman G. Morris, who suffered bums about his hands and face. He was treated at Christchurch Hospital and discharged. No property was damaged in the fire which was attended, at 3 p.m., by one appliance from the Central fire station.
