FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A weakening ridge extends from the east across the north of the North Island and a cold front is moving slowly north-east over the South Island; a complex trough of low pressure over the western Tasman Sea is moving east.
Forecast: North and central Canterbury.—Strong north-westerlies decreasing during the morning and winds becoming moderate and variable; scattered showers about the Alps, otherwise mainly fine but considerable high cloud at times; moderate temperatures. Marlborough and Nelson.—Fresh gusty westerlies; mainly fine and warm, but variable high cloud. Buller and Westland.—Moderate or fresh south-westerlies becoming variable in Buller from afternoon; mainly cloudy; occasional showers; cool. Outlook.—Scattered rain will probably develop on the West Coast and in Nelson and Marlborough; rather cloudy in Canterbury. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
