Antarctic ‘heat wave '
(Special Crspdt. NZ.P.A.) SCOTT BASE, November 28. Scott Base is basking in a “heat wave”—this season’s first temperatures above freezing have been recorded.
The highest temperature so far this month is half a degree above zero Celsius, which was recorded yesterday, when 161 hours of bright sunshine was also recorded.
Most of the snow has been cleared from around the base, and during early afternoon, the warmest period in the 24 hours of daylight, puddles are forming on the cleared ground.
