Cashmere Rd traffic plan
| Proposals to have a traffic [island and road-marking at the junction of Cashmere Road and Valley Road were mentioned at a meeting of the Heathcote County Council on Thursday evening. The Post Office wanted to place a telephone booth opposite Valley Road, but fhe council said that this would conflict with the roading scheme, and the booth would be better located on the south side of Cashmere Road at the north-east corner of the new shopping centre. [ The council also decided to move the pedestrian crossing at the corner to a point nearer the children’s playground. The Hillsborough Residents’ Improvement Society was given permission to plant the traffic island at the Port Hills Road-Opawa Road junction. At the Heathcote end of Port Hills Road, between Martindales Road and Bridle Path Road, the Canterbury Malting Company, Ltd, was asked to provide more off-street parking to relieve congestion. It was reported that the council intends to widen part of this section of Port Hills Road next financial year.
