Mr K. A. Paulin, Akaroa County engineer, was welcomed at his first meeting of the Akaroa County Council yesterday. Mr Paulin, formerly with the Waimairi County Council, has taken up the Akaroa post, which has been vacant for some months.
Mr M. R. Compton, of Christchurch, has been granted a certificate of public practice by the New Zealand Society of Accountants. Mr E. G. Budge, of Upper Hutt, has retired after 22 years as secretary of the New Zealand-United States Foundation, which administers the Fulbright programme. His successor is Mr L. A. Cox, assistant registrar at Victoria University of Wellington. Earlier this month, Mr Budge received a distinguished service award from the Board of Foreign Scholarships in Washington.
