Government Architect
*N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 14. Mr J. R. Blake-Kelly, the ! present Assistant Government Architect, has been appointed to the position of Government Architect. He is the first New Zealand graduate to be appointed to the position. He will replace the present Government Architect, Mr F. G. F. Sheppard, who retires in December. Mr Blake-Kelly joined the Public Works Department as a temporary draughtsman in 1937. He was appointed district architect, Wellington, in 1952, and Assistant Government Architect in 1959. The Ministry of Works said in a statement today that Mr Blake-Kelly had co-ordinated and controlled over-ail master planning in Otago, Canterbury, at Massey and Waikato Universities, and was at present preparing a development plan for the second Auckland University at Albany.
