Bridge over Dart River
(From Our Own Reporterf , WELLINGTON, October 10. I A contract for the building : of a bridge over the Dart River, immediately north of Lake Wakatipu, had been let, said the Minister of Works (Mr Allen). The bridge is the key to a road link which will extend; from Queenstown and Glen-1 orchy to Kinloch, at the; north-west head of the lake.; At present, Kinloch relies on the steamer Eamslaw for; access. Sited about nine miles; from Glenorchy, the bridge’ will be built by P. Sheehan, Ltd (Invercargill) for a contract price of $193,734. It will be 17ft wide and 651 ft; long and will be constructed of pre-cast, post-tensioned T-beams, supported on reinforced concrete piers and, abutments founded on steel; H-piles. It is expected to be built; within two years. Finance for the bridge comes from the roads vote,; a Government appropriation; for developmental roading ■ projects. I
