Post office conversion
The Post Office will progressively convert all its measurements to the metric system by 1976. The conversion will include 3500 weighing machines st Post Office counters and all the records of more than 1.2 million telephone subscribers for toll and rental distances. Toll calls will be metered according to kilometres instead of miles. All engineering equipment, projects, stores and dashboard instruments in the entire Post Office vehicle fleet will also be altered.
The Post Office has already established two working groups—general and engineering—to control the metrication change. Metrication has already been introduced at the Warkworth satellite earth station which was constructed to metric measurement. Ail conductor and coaxial cable 'sizes are metric.
