AUST. WOOL REVIEW
Easier trend observed
On the Australian wool market the week opened in Brisbane last Monday with : prices generally unchanged for better style fleece and pieces, but continuing irregular and weaker for shive-affected and tender . wool, in comparison with the previous week. Adelaide opened on Tuesday with similar price trends, although Japan showed comparatively more interest in inferior-style fleeces, which did not carry as much shive as their Northern equivalents. Portland and Fremantle both opened on Wednesday— Portland for one day only—with prices slightly easier for most styles. By Thursday, in the three markets still selling, the easing tendency had become i more pronounced, and a new i factor emerged: tender wools, 1 offered in fairly large quanti-1 ties in Fremantle and in moderate quantities else-, where, showed marked price , irregularity and the Aus-< tralian Wool Commission was , called upon to buy a proportionately larger quantity than i had been the case to date this season. , The A.W.C. was active | throughout the week, and the > types neglected by the trade. and thus bought by the Com-. mission started to show a, wider variety than in the past. It bought 23.3 per cent of the offering, with 65.9 per cent being taken by the trade, and 10.8 per cent passed in.
