FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An anticyclone to the north of the North Island is drifting slowly east. A strong and disturbed north-westerly airstream flows over the Tasman Sea on to the South Island. Forecast: Canterbury, the Kaikoura coast and central Marlborough. Moderate northeasterlies predominating about the coast, but north-westerlies freshenipg inland. A few showers about the Alps and some coastal fog patches, but the weather mainly fine. Mild or warm this afternoon. Outlook similar. The Marlborough Sounds.—North-wester-lies, strong at times. A few areas of cloud and isolated showers, but mainly fine mild weather. Outlook similar. Nelson.—Moderate winds from north or west. A few showers about the western ranges but the weather mainly fine and mild. Outlook little change. Buller and Westland.—-Moderate northerlies predominating. Mainly cloudy, with areas of rain, chiefly in the south. Moderate temperatures. Outlook: rain.
