Television
Sir, —So much has been said and written recently about a second television channel, but what will, be shown on this channel, and where will the powers that be find material for showing? It seems they are having difficulty in finding sufficient programmes to fill present viewing time on one channel. Thousands of films have been made, many of them excellent viewing; is it possible that some of these will be shown on a second channel,: or will ft be mainly for educational programmes, which ■ could be interesting? An al-1 ternative programme could ; be the telecasting of Parlia- <
mentary sessions for entertainment or even amusement. —Yours, etc., M.A.H. September 9, 1971. Sir, —Colour television by all means in due course, but in the meantime let us have a second channel free of advertising from, say, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Such a service could be run without even tile services of extra announcers being required and perhaps with a programme to suit the over-50s.—Yours, etc., SEPTAGENARIAN. September 9, 1971.
