Lyttelton diver changes job
A Lyttelton Harbour Board employee, Mr C. Subrltzky, who Is ona of Now Zealand's most experienced professional divers, give up this work recently when he was appointed senior traffic officer for the Lyttelton Harbour Board. He formerly alternated between traffic duties end diving. Mr Subrltzky, who Is well versed In both orthodox diving with equipment, and also skin diving, has taken part In many salvage tasks and mercy missions underwater at Lyttelton for the last 17 years. He has frequently dived inside the harbour and outside it—once about three years ago, looking for a submerged barge, in 74ft of water, three miles off the heads. He is familiar with sharks
Mr Subrltzky, who is predominantly of Maori blood, and is a Maori warden, is directly descended from the last king of Poland, King John. When the court went into exile, the family scattered abroad to points including New Zealand, where it is well known. The name was originally Sobieski, but was changed for purposes of dtsIn all his years of diving, Mr Subrltzky has never learned to swim. In this, he is probably unique among world divers. Without his fins, Mr Subrltzky said he could not move at all. Mr Subritzky's hobby is skin diving. ARRIVALS Kaitoke. (6.4 S a.m.). 3351, CspL J. Robbie, Sydney (U.S.S.).
