NEW JAPANESE JET TRANSPORTER.—The Japanese-built medium-size twin-jet transport XCI taking off on its maiden flight. The plane can carry 60 persons and a 2½-ton truck, which can be driven on board. The two turbo-fan jet engines give a cruising speed of 440 miles an hour. The jet transporter, which is part of the fourth defence programme of Japan, will be mass-produced by Kawasaki Heavy Industries.
