Kowhai brings cars
The Union Steam Ship Company's Kowhai arrived at Lyttelton yesterday morning with 144 trade vehicles for local discharge. The Kowhai is expected to make at least one more voyage to Lyttelton from Wellington with a backlog of trade vehicles. Two motor vessels— British, and the other Norwegian—which arrived at Lyttelton yesterday have Chinese names. They are the China Navigation Company's Shansi and the Wilhelmsen Line’s Tungsha. All Wilhelmsen Line vessels have names beginning with “T.” The company has 40 cargo vessels, 10 tankers and three bulk carriers. Six vessels being built for the line include three large roll-on vessels for the Australian-European trade. The Tungsha is discharging North European cargo, including a quantity of frozen fish. She will load wool, skins and hides, besides a quantity of refrigerated cargo (including venison) for return. ARRIVALS Shansi (6.7 a.m.), 8051, Capt. T. S. Payne, Wellington (N.Z.S.).
