Niue Island Bill

Press Association) I • WELLINGTON, Sept 8. 1 ; Recommendations on the constitutional development of 1 Niue Island are given effect ! in the Niue Amendment Bill ! introduced in Parliament today by the Minister of Maori and Island Affairs (Mr MacIntyre). ’ The recommendations were made by professor R. Q. Quentin-Baxter, professor of law at Victoria University, in a report to the Niue Island Assembly. 2 The bill also provides for Ufb- control of land in the vicinity of any aerodrome to fulfil safety requirements and also makes miscellaneous amendments on public health and. the criminal code to bring Niue law up to date, Mr MacIntyre said. , The bill was requested by the Island assembly and a delegation will appear before the Island Affairs Committee next Tuesday, Mr Maclntyre . The bill was given a first reading, a second reading pro forma and was referred to the committee. Freight-rate talks.—The ehairman of the Meat Producers’ Board (Sir John Ormond) confirmed yesterday that the annual freight-rate talks between the New Zealand producer boards and British shipping lines would take place in Wellington on September 20.—(P.A.).
