Athletics panel not to be detailed

A move to detail the composition of the Canterbury athletics selection panel was defeated last evening.

The annual general meeting of track and field delegates rejected, by 14 votes to eight, a Toe H remit that the panel comprise one field events statistician, one track events statistician, and a convenor.

“1 don’t see why you want to dicker with it,” said the retiring convenor of selectors (Mr T. I. Crossen). "When the track and field panel is elected, they know their duties.” “The intention of the motion is to make sure someone has performances at their fingertips,” said Mrs D. Jameson, who proposed the remit.

“I don’t know how you define ‘statistician track’ or ‘statistician field’,” said Dr R. Syme. “But it seems the intention would be to direct the panel how to do its job.”

Messrs D. W. Mackenzie—the only retiring member again standing D. W. Jowett and V. Briedis were subsequently elected selectors. Messrs Mackenzie and C. Sanderson were elected handicappers. 404A8TRE SPRINT* “Short” sprints at Canterbury A.A.A. meetings will usually be held over 60 metres in the future. The Technical club proposed through Miss B. M. Poulsen, thdt any sprints under 100 metres must be 60 metres to conform with international standards. This was amended by Mr Mackenzie to provide that the short sprints “normally be 60 metres,” and this was carried unanimously. MORC TIMB SOUGHT The N.Z.A.A.A. will again be urged to hold the 800 metres at the national championships over a longer period than the present 22 hours between the heats and final. The Olympic Games qualifying

standard of Imin 47.« sec was difficult enough to attain without the events being run close to each other, said the Technical club, proposing the remit. A St Martins club remit that the Canterbury 10,000 metres championship be held not earlier than 5 p.m. was adopted.
