TROTTING Heatherloch likely to win at Hutt Park

Heatherloch looks set to open her winning account for the season in the City Handicap, the second leg of the main double on the opening night of the Wellington Trotting Club’s spring meeting today at Hutt Park Raceway.

Heatherloch, a stable mate of the first-leg can didates, Valencia a n < Garcon Roux, had confi dent support in her twi starts at the nations ; meeting, but a seventl • and a fifth were the besi ' she could manage. She showed something more in keeping with her reputation in the Travis Stakes at the New Brighton meeting on Saturday when she fought on gamely for second without having any chance ol testing the winner, Royal Ascot Her opposition will be nowhere near as strong this evening, and with average luck she should beat this smallish field in which she will he bracketed with Scottish Warrior. Refluent has paced splendid races so far this season, and she went quite well when fourth to Royal Ascot at the New Brighton meeting. Once again she will be driven by

->. M. Holmes, who will handle . her stablemates—Al Mundy a and Aerial Mom. She might J* find Heatherloch too good, >• but should go close to filling O the concession position. J Faerie Mab was the favl ourite for the Cambridge “ Stakes last week at the New '*■ Brighton meeting, but she did not receive a good run and finished seventh. She 8 looks well and might make amends on the trip. s Madam Court failed rather ‘ dismally at the Cambridge ♦ meeting last week, finishing « last in the race won by i Young Cardigan. She won ’ five races last season—the g last three in succession—and 8 might improve sufficiently as " a result of last week’s run to ® be a prospect. i However, Shining Armour will probably be the best- . backed of the North Island , horses in the race. She was i not disgraced when second — > a short length from Young » Cardigan—-at the Cambridge J meeting. < King Dillon, which went ' well at the Methven trials last week, will be having his last start in New Zealand. He has been sold to the United States and will leave for his new owner on Friday. He has a fair turn of speed and might upset calculations in this race. Radiant Globe, the Valen-cia-Garcon Roux bracket, and Globe Bay form a likely trio in the first leg—the President's Handicap, a race in which there will be solid support for Royal Trump and Sam Tryax, both of which have shown sound form over sprint distances. The on-course concession double will be run on the Welcome Handicap and the Twilight Handicap. Fair weather is forecast and the track will be fast.
