TV study award
Mr Murray Hutchinson, an N.Z.B.C. television producer at DNTV2 has been granted an award for special study overseas by the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council. The award, which was open to producers in the broadcasting field and to television and radio authors, was made possible by a grant from the New Zealand Broadcasting Authority. Mr R. T. Peacock, chairman of the Broadcasting Authority, said the award had been initiated because it was important to encourage talent in the broadcasting medium and wherever possible develop it for the benefit of New Zealand as a whole. Mr Hutchinson, aged 30, is in his third year as a television producer for the N.Z.B.C. He has prepared and presented the second series of “Note For Note,” and produced and recorded two operas. His first opera, recently released on N.Z.B.C. television, was an adaptation of Offenbach’s “R.S.V.P.”— “An Invitation to a Musicale at Monsieur Cauliflower’s.” He intends to use the award to spend some time in the British television industry as an observer, to study production techniques of a large production unit working on historical drama, and to investigate the approach of British television producers in transporting theatrical productions of ballet and opera to the media. A condition of the award 1 is that the holder return to New Zealand and impart the ■ knowledge acquired to others involved in the same field.
