Chch Y.M.C.A. leads
After a good win in the gymnastics competition yesterday, the Christchurch team has a slight lead from Bryndwr in the national Y.M.C.A. tournament being held in Christchurch. Hastings is in third place from Invercargill, fourth, New Plymouth and Wanganui equal fifth, Dunedin, Nelson, Papakura and East Tamaki.
The Bryndwr team was successful in the publicspeaking section of the competition, with Dunedin second and Wanganui third. Mr G. Dowling, captain of the New Zealand cricket team last year, the Rev. A. McLeod, the chairman of the National Council of Churches, and Mr A. D. Hunter, the headmaster of Bumside High School, judged this section, which was held at the Bryndwr Y.M.C.A. The national president of the movement, Mr ”R. N. Dyer, will preside at the competitors’ banquet and presentation ceremony this evening. The Minister of Tourism and Broadcasting (Mr Walker) will present the trophies.
