Gastronomic occasion

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright)

BIARRITZ, Sept. 7. Ten of France's best-known chefs pooled their culinary expertise in Biarritz last night to produce what they described as the meal of the century for about 100 gastronomes.

World stage and screen personalities sat down, in the Cafe de Paris, to a feast ranging from consomme Moscovite au caviar to ragout de truffes et de puree de mais au foie gras, prepared by such experts as Raymond Oliver and Lasserre, of Chez Lasserre.

Acting as host, Pierre Laporte brought the vigour of Basque cuisine to the menu. The restaurant was decorated in rural style and garlanded with flowers.
