FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation: A depression off the Bay of Plenty will move away towards the Chatham Islands. A ridge of high pressure extends from the central Tasman Sea across the South Island. r Forecast:

Central Marlborough and the Marlborough Sounds. —Moderate south-easterlies, the winds fresh in a few exposed places this morning. Partly cloudy, with remaining areas of drizzle clearing during the day. Cool.

Canterbury, the Kaikoura coast, Nelson, Buller and Westland.—Light or moderate variable winds. Fine weather, becoming mild this afternoon.
