Sydenham Park
Sir,—The turning of Brougham Street into part of the “expressway" scheme
still appears to require a strip of Sydenham Park and the destruction of a whole row of trees. How can this be stopped?—Yours, etc., “JIM ABELSON.” August 17, 1971.
[The Town Clerk (Mr M. B. Hayes) replies: “The council’s district planning scheme, provides for the widening of Brougham Street, and the council is seeking authority for some of the land required to be taken from Sydenham Park. This item is included in the Christchurch City (Reserves) Empowering Bill (No. 2) which is currently before Parliament for consideration.’’]
