Evangelist’s visit
The Rev. J. Chapman, director of evangelism in the Diocese of Sydney, will give a series of lectures which will be followed by discussions at St. John’s Church, Latimer Square, from September 16 to 24.
Two Anglican Churches of St John—in Latimer Square and in Woolston —have combined to bring Mr Chapman to New Zealand, but it is intended that the meetings will be interdenominational. The Rev. R. F. N. Thompson, vicar of St John’s, Latimer Square, said yesterday that Mr Chapman was well known in Australia for his ability to hold audiences of all levels on the moral and social issues prevalent today. “He commands faith through a question-and-answer approach, and we feel he would appeal to an audience of workers from, central Christchurch, who are all invited to attend his lectures,” said Mr Thompson.
Mr Chapman will speak at a businessmen’s luncheon at St John’s Church, Latimer Square, on September 16, and he will speak at open meetings between September 21 and 24, during the lunch hour and also in the evening.
