Forty lambs shot dead on farm

(N.Z. Press Association) MASTERTON, Sept, 3. At least 40 lambs were shot dead and several more were injured on a Tauherenikau farm last night. “Dead lambs everywhere” was the sight which greeted Mr A. D. Stout, when he was called to two riverside paddocks of his farm, “Lerwick,” at Tauherenikau this morning. Others, with their back legs broken, were dragging

themselves round by their front legs. “This is the worst case of wanton destruction and cruelty I have ever seen,” said Mr Stout. “The same thing happened seven years ago, but then it was both ewes and lambs, but only about 18 were involved.” The carnage was discovered by a Wairarapa Catchment Board overseer, Mr H. H. Bull, who called Mr Stout.
