Quick justice
On January 7, 1871, Anthony (Darkle) Noble murdered a girl in Sewell Street, Hokitika. On January 17 he was convicted and sentenced to death. On February 16 he died on the gallows. This was the quickest dispatch of justice in a case of murder in New Zealand's legal history.
