HIGHLIGHTS OF TRAINING Lord Nelson ready for Ashburton

Lord Nelson end Dantlc showed fitiM for their Ashburton engagements next Tuesday when they sprinted attractively in training on the No. 1 grass a* Itlccarton yesterday. Lord Nelson, which will make his open-dess debut in - the Flying Handicap at Ashburton, and Dantlc (D. Tucker) ran in from the half-mile on terms in 49 2-ssee. Lord Nelson had D. Reed, Us race rider, up.

On that showing Dantic, which had much the worst of the weights, must be hard to beat in the Lagmhor Maiden Stakes No. 2.

The Gordons Gin Handicap rivals, Red Chips (N. Cowles), Carafin (G. R. Lee) and Magic Man (A. Judkln) also shaped well. They completed their work with half a mile in S# l-ssec and were in line at the finish. Bimerah (D. Reed) led Hayburner (M. Thornley) throughout seven furlongs on the plough in Imin 2* Msec. the final three in M Msec. Bimerah, which will run against the staying hacks at Ashburton, was a length clear at the start and held ‘that advantage till the end. The open mile at Ashburton might be a Mt short for Hayburner but he win still be a respected light-weight after his last-start third to Quetta and WataUan at the Grand National meeting.

Time and Tide (G. Mein) took Imin Msec for his six on the plough. His last half-mile took 51 1-Seee and the last three, with Hs stablemate. Harn (A. Eastwood), was run in 37 4-Ssec. Thornley) took 50 Msec for her solo half-mile and her staHemate, Irritate, with the same rider up, completed a similar task in fpsee. The latter might make a bold showing in the hack sprint on Tuesday.

Sudden Change (G. Mein) and Country Doc (P. Thistoil) were timed foe the last three furlongs of their work on the plough In 38 1-Ssec. They will be rivals in the Lagmhor Stakes No. 1.

Donnybrook Fair (D. Sanderson) always appeared to be travelling well alongside Shezan (G. R. l«e) throughout their halfmile on the gran in 50sec. Donnybrook Fair, an impressive winner on the course at his only previous start, should shape well in the hack sprint on Iwesday.

Both worked freely and Civil Defence is at peak for the one mile Waimanno Maiden at Wanganui. Agricolet and Martian’s Beauty covered three furlongs in 33 2-5 sec. Martian’s Beauty is fit for the River City Maiden. Nullarbor (B. Dodds), which could race wen in the Wanganui Motors Handicap, took Imin 20sec for six furlongs, the last three in 39 l-ssee. Mr Spy and WeUcourt covered five furlongs in Imin 9sec, the last three in 41 2-ssec.
