Another world title to Mauger
The winner ®f three world speedway championships, I. Mauger yesterday won the first world sand-track championship, over a 1000 metres course on the Bjerke track in Oslo, Norway.
B. Briggs like Mauger, from Christchurch, was sixth in the event, which only this year was given world ranking.
“It’s terrific,” commented 1 Mauger’s mother last | evening. “Ivan ' didn’t i give himself a chance. I He had never raced on I the track before, and I no-one thought the Ger- I man, Manfred Poschen- I reider, could be beaten.” I Poschenreider was placed I second and R. Wedin, of I Sweden, third. Mauger ’ won the final heat in Imin 39.1 sec.
