EXTRA TIME AT HOCKEY
(N.Z. Press Association). INVERCARGILL. In an exciting match at Turnbull Thomson Park, Invercargill, yesterday afternoon, Canterbury beat Auckland in the semi-final of (he New Zealand colts’ hockey tournament.
Canterbury's win came after 10 minutes of extra time and 15 penalty strokes. When the final whistle blew at full-time it was a two-all draw and after 10 minutes of extra play there was still no further score. , :
To decide the winner, .to go to the final, each team took five consecutive penary, strokes. In the first round both teams netted two goals, This was repeated in the second round and in the
third round Canterbury netted four goals to Auckland’s three. In the other semi-final, Otago beat Wellington, 1-1, in a game which also had to be decided by penalty strokes. Other results yesterday were: Southland 3, Manawatu 35 Taranaki 6, Walrarapa 4; Eastern Districts 5, Nelson 1; Southern Districts North 6, Southland 4c
