(N.Z. Press Association) KAITAIA, Sept. 1. Mr Brian C. Bassett, of Oruaiti, near Mangonui, is progressing well in Kaitaia Hospital afjer. being badly ripped by a wild boar while pighunting, near the farm on] which he sharemilks, on Sunday afternoon. His wounds to a leg and thigh needed 60 stitches. Mr“ Bassett, a married man with three children, had previously encountered the boar, which had killed lambs on his employer’s property. He went out with other men, but was alone when his dogs bailed up the boar in rough hill country. Mr Bassett slipped when he went to knife the pig, and the boar broke loose and mauled him. He tried to ward it off with his legs. His friends heard the commotion, and within a minute had reached him and killed the boar. Even when the boar was gutted two men could not lift it. Mr Bassett tried to walk out, but was unable to continue, and a tractor was obtained to take him a mile to the road.
