Otago seeks challenge
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Special Ranfurly Shield challenge Rugby matches may yet be seen in Auckland this season.
But Mr R. M. Don, the chairman of the Auckland Rugby Union, is giving no leads.
“Because all unions wishing to lodge special challenges have until 4.30 p.m. next Friday to do so, I am not prepared to comment further than that,” Mr Don said yesterday.
Otago has requested a special challenge against Auckland on September 29. The request was sent in on Sunday. Hawke’s Bay, too, has sought a special challenge.
Auckland’s home matches against Counties, North Auckland, and Waikato on September 11, 18, and 25 will automatically become shield challenges.
