Broadly the work Includes the construction of a gated control structure, the deepening of 3 miles of river channel, a minor earth dam, and various associated works. The intention is that this work be undertaken by a NEW ZEALAND CONTRACTOR on a COST REIMBURSEMENT/FIXED FEE basis, and under the direct administrative control of the Ministry of Works. The work is scheduled to begin in October, 1971, and will take about four years to complete. At its peak the work is expected to employ upwards of 150 workmen.
