WALTER PEAK STATEMENT

WELLINGTON, August 6.

There had been no application to sell the Walter Peak Station and no advertisement for any sale of the station had been submitted to the Registrar of the Supreme Court, Dunedin, for any such sale, a director of Walter Peak, Ltd, said today.

The director of Walteri Peak, Ltd, Mr A. M. Dawson, I of Queenstown, today made

[this statement by telephone to the New Zealand Press Association in Wellington: “It has been drawn to the company’s attention that an advertisement appeared in The Times’ on July 29, 1971, lurporing to offer Walter ’eak Station for sale by auction under conduct of the Registrar of the Supreme Court, Dunedin. “The company has made inquiries of the Registrar of the Court in Dunedin and of any mortgagee and discovers that the advertisement was published without authority of the Registrar or of such mortgagee. “The Registrar confirms that no application to sell Walter Peak Station has been received by anyone. “Nor has any form of advertisement been submitted for his approval. “Appropriate steps are being taken to ascertain how this advertisement appeared in the London paper and to preserve the company’s reputation.”

A spokesman for the Australia and New Zealand Bank, Ltd, which holds a mortgage on the Walter Peak property, said today that inquiries made by the bank' indicated that the advertisement in “The Times" had been published in error. He was not in a position to comment on the affairs of the Walter Peak Company or discuss the possibility of a sale under the terms of the tfenk’s mortgage, the spokesman said.
