DISCHARGES TO STREAM

Views sought by board

When tests were being made of the discharge from the new vegetable-cleaning and packing plant of Radley Brothers at Belfast, it was evident that something was happening “from round about” in the Kauputone Stream, said Mr H. E. Connor at a meeting of the North Canterbury Catchment Board yesterday. The board’s investigating officer (Mr R. B. Ayrey)had found some discharges into the stream that had not been known to the board. These appeared to involve the soap works and a freezing works, one cause, possibly, being drainage from a 'dump at the soap works getting into a sealed drain and thence to the stream. The board referred the question to the Drainage Board, the Waimairi County Council, and the Health Department for their comments.
