Woman sentenced
Antonietta Bagarella, aged 27, the first woman accused of belonging to the Sicilian Mafia, was sentenced today to 2i years special supervision. The ruling, by the Palermo Tribunal, calls for the former gymnastics teacher to live in her home town of Corleone, and to remain indoors between dusk and dawn. She must also report to the police three times a week. She may not have a passport, nor may she leave the Corleone area—a main Mafia centre and the site of some of the secret society’s bloodiest feuds.— Palermo, Aug. 4.
