Early races for two-year-olds
“The Press’* Special Service AUCKLAND.
The programme committee of the Auckland Troting Club at a meeting last week decided to include a * race for two-year-olds on each night of the club’s meeting on September 18 and 25. If there are sufficient entries, the race on the first night will be restricted to colts and geldings and on the second night to fillies. Considering the difficulties involved a large number of horses in the various classes have been sold to the
United States in the last few months the programme committee looks to have done a first-rate job.
As well as the event for two-year-olds, races for pacers on the first night will have limits of 2.16 only, 2.17 only, 2.15. 2.20 (stake of $1000), and 2.13 (stake of $3000).
There will also be a race for three-year-oids, worth $l4OO, with special handicaps. On the second night, a 2.18 class race will replace the 2.20 class event, otherwise, the programme is the same. Limits of 2.18 and 2.15 have tentatively been fixed for the trotters’ races each night. A survey of all the horses available will be made, however, and it is possible, according to the secretary (Mr J. F. Patterson) that the limits will . be tightened one second in each case.
After being discussed at the club’s first meeting of the new club’s new committee; the programme will be submitted to the Trotting Conference for approval.
