Jameson to stand by

The England cricket selectors yesterday asked the Warwickshire opening batsman, J Jameson, to stand by for the second test against Indiastarting at Old Trafford today. This step was taken because G. Boycott sustained a hamstring injury playing foi Yorkshire against Essex on Sunday, and is not certain that he will recover in time tc play. Jameson, who has nol played for England, was twelfth man for the first test Cricket.—The England tesl batsman, M. J. Stewart, who has led Surrey In the English count) cricket championship for the lasi nine seasons, will give up th< captaincy at the end of this year Aged 38, he played eight tests for England.
