Holmes to return
(N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI. B. E. Holmes, the 1970 All Black who was injured in a pre-season match, will make his first appearance for Northland’s representative Rugby team this season, against the Lions on Saturday. He will play on the side of the scrum. The team is:— K. Going; D. Panther, R. Jones, L. Bradley; J. Morgan, B. Going; S. Going (captain); L. Haddon; Z. Marinkovich, C. Poynter, J. Kirtlan, B. Holmes; M. Jones, F. Colthurst, R. Guy. Reserves.—Backs: G. Wintie, K. Middles. Forwards: T. Sullivan, G. Phillips.
Tennis.—The New Zealander, B. E. Fairlie, went down to T. Okker (Netherlands), 6-3, 6-7, 1-6, in the first round of the United States professional tennis championship at Longwood, Massachusetts.
