Dismal performance on Australian market

There were few bright spots on Australian sharemarkets yesterday. Trading was dull, and prices generally continued their downward trend.

Speculatives were generally dull, but Whim Creek stood out with a 130 c rise to 480 c, after an assay report of nickel values ranging from 0.44 per cent to 8 per cent at its Ruth Well prospect.

Cons Gold dropped 30c to 700 c and Metals Ex shed 10c to 500 c. Kathleen Investments dropped 10c to 740 c, and Queensland Mines eased 90c to 1300 c.

W.M.C. dropped 12c to 328 c. New B.H. recovered 30c to 1010 c, while Poseidon firmed 50c to 2250 c. Southland, Sparge’s, and Westralian Nickel dropped. 5c each. Woodside firmed 6c - to 134 c, and the contributing shares rose 7c to 95c. Mid East followed suit, and rose 8c to 83c. Magellan put on 5c to 210 c, while Interstate firmed 4c to 34c.

A.A.O. dropped 5c to 155 c and Ampol Ex fell 4c to 110 c. A.0.D., Basin, Bounty, Beach,

and Clarence eased fractionally. Among the industrials, B.H.P. dropped 10c to 1320 c, and Comalco eased 5c to 355 c. Ampol, Acquila, Austim, C.S.R., and Woolworths were marginally lower, while E.Z.I. firmed 6c to 301 c.
